What to Expect
During the hearing test, your child will undergo a series of simple and painless evaluations to assess their hearing ability. Our friendly team ensures a comfortable and supportive environment, making the experience stress-free for both you and your child.
Tympanometry
What is it? Tympanometry is a test that checks how well your child’s eardrum moves. It involves placing a small, soft probe at the entrance of the ear canal to measure eardrum movement.
Why do we do it? This test helps us find out if there are any issues, like fluid behind the eardrum or an ear infection, that might affect your child’s hearing.
Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
What is it? Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing measures sounds given off by the inner ear when it responds to a sound. We place a tiny earphone and microphone in your child’s ear to detect these sounds.
Why do we do it? This test shows us how well the inner ear (cochlea) is working. It’s a quick and painless way to check for hearing problems.
Audiometry
What is it? This is the test you “normally” expect when assessing hearing. Audiometry tests your child’s ability to hear different sounds, tones, and pitches. During the test, your child wears headphones and responds to various sounds by raising their hand or pressing a button.
Why do we do it? This test helps us understand your child’s hearing ability in detail, identifying any hearing loss and determining its severity. (Accuracy and ability to achieve usable results will depend on your child’s age, understanding and ability to follow test procedures.)
